How to deal with a difficult co-worker?
Author: admin | Category: dealing with difficult peopleI worked with someone on the same level who likes to beat me up to make himself look good. He will call the D.O.(someone above our boss) and complain that I don’t know how to do my job and in fact its him trying to look good. Take my word for it. ANything you do you need to watch yourself because he is a career guy and will make up storeis about you. This is terrible, how do you deal with this, I dont have alot of experience dealing with diffdifficult people.

My experience has been that it’s best to do your job to the best of your ability and not worry about what the "career" person is doing or saying. Most of the time the boss knows, to some extent, what’s going on, so there is likely no need for you to be concerned.
People like you describe may make it to the top faster than the rest of us, but they are likely to fall hard and fast once they achieve their goal. Unfortunately, most of them never seem to learn from their mistakes and continue with the behavior you describe only to repeat the rise and fall over and over. It’s almost sinfully satisfying to stand back and watch………

I would go and talk to the DO and ask for a special project… (or take a task you already have and make it shine) prove your capability and always speak properly with respect (don’t lower yourself to your competitions standards) . Hopefully this DO will realize what a backstabber the other guy is.
Just always do your best, and go above and beyond what you need to do to shine… and maybe get a few others on your side to talk you up, and talk others up too to the DO if you are only saying good things about others it will make you look better, than the negative speaking coworker.
Good luck, that is a pain, and if you aren’t happy there, look for other work and get your career moving forward.
