How to be assertive rather than aggressive or weak? When dealing with difficult people!?

Author: admin  |  Category: difficult people

That’s either dealing with difficult friends that you cant screw up a friendship with even if there being a douche bag or standing your ground with genuine A holes!

I go from doing nothing to stewing about (I have a long fuse) it to full blown rage I unfortunately lack assertiveness some tips would be great!

OR I KILL YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just kidding tips please

Assertiveness as the word implies means to assert yourself, that is you express your beliefs honestly as they are.

Its always mistaken with aggressiveness, people think assertiveness mean being brash and talking tough.

Its a way of speaking where we expressing what we actually intend to convey in a tone that is neither aggressive nor submissive, its a tone good enough to say "I mean it"

A difference in aggressive way and assertive way of speaking is:
"You got me angry and so I did this"

and

"I was feeling annoyed which made me do this"

In the first case you were clearly putting the blame on that person and attacking him, which will make him attack you once again.

In the second case, you’re rather defending yourself than attacking him plus you tell him honestly what you feel

Most assertive statements starts with "I feel" or "I believe".Its enough if you bring out what you exactly wanted to say, the problem is in our state of anger we forget the main point and keep going around in circles and reach nowhere.

Isnt it something we are born with?
Yes, it indeed is, we are born with these qualities but as a part of our growth and circumstances in life we are made to be submissive.

Isnt it easy to do
Like I said before, its easier said that done to bring our whats in the truest of our heart, constant practice will help.
