How to cope with Difficult
People at work who don't do their job
One of the most annoying things that you can find in a co-worker is a co-worker who just doesn't do their job. You will find that those who do not do their job will interfere in the way that you do your job. Sometimes it can be to the point where you are unable to do your job unless the other person does theirs. It is this time that you will find that it is difficult to handle these people and do the work or tasks that need to be done.
There are few ways that you can cope with a difficult person who doesn't like to do their own work and that is to talk to them by yourself. Pull them aside and tell them that they need to step it up or you will be forced to go to higher authority. Explain that you really don't want to cause trouble, but that this person needs to pull their weight around so that you can enjoy your time at work without having to feel like your doing it all. Ask them for a little bit of help. When they see that their actions are affecting others, they will try to fix the situation and they may end up giving you respect and they will show you the respect by picking up the slack. However, when you talk to this person you are going to have to explain to them that you are only caring about their performance because it is affecting yours. Then you will want to choose your words so very carefully when you do a confrontation. This means that you are going to have to show them some respect as well. This means that you are going to have to give them every once of patients that you can. You are going to have to choose your words to come out positively and you can do that by explaining to them through words other than "you" and any other terms that will make them take it personally.
You are going to find that there are times when no one can motivate this person, but you will have to try. Try to motivate this person through good leadership skills. You will find that you can use good leadership skills by showing that you can encourage others to be better people in general and at work. You will want to set the bar and show them what is expected from them. It is important that you offer your support to this person through compliments and encouraging words.
However, there are going to be times when you are not going to be able to encourage them. In fact, you taking a notice to their performance is now made the situation worse. You will want to learn how you can deal with this person by talking to your manager. You will want to state all the problems that you are having because of the other person's lack of ability to work. You will want to keep this positive so that you don't end up seeming like you are picking at the person.
Also, you may want to take in mind your own position. If you are in authority to say something you will want to confront the person, but keep the words positive. If you have no rank or authority to say anything, you may want to ask your superior for advice on how you can deal with the situation appropriately. This way you can handle the situations with confidence and with professional actions. You will find that when you go about dealing with a difficult worker positively, then you are able to find positive reactions to the way that you handle a situation.
